Royal Palm Beach, FL.- The Dwyer Panthers secured their first win of the Willie Smith era with a 21-6 victory over Royal Palm Beach!
Tonight’s matchup featured strong defensive fortitude from both sidelines, neutralizing offensive momentum. Both offenses struggled early in tonight’s game, marching into the red-zone but never making it into the promised land.
As previously stated, it took the majority of the first half to get a strong offensive drive going. Dwyer capitalized on possessions as DB Raoul Douglas came away with a crucial interception with just under two minutes left in the first half. This momentum swing was just what the Dwyer offense needed, as the Panthers prowled across the field, and senior QB Koden Brown hit the aforementioned Douglas for a 7 yard score with seconds remaining in the half.
Coming out of halftime, the late TD was just what the boys from D-Block needed, as their offense began to ground and pound during the second half. The biggest catalyst of the Dwyer offense’s success tonight came from the elite 110 yard and 2 TD performance from running back Sylvio Joseph. Joseph was lethal tonight, breaking off numerous big runs en route to extended drives.
Joseph’s two second half scores put the game away for Dwyer, extending their lead 21-0 late in the second half.
Royal Palm would inevitably reach the end-zone tonight as well on a well developed drive late in the game. On this drive, Max Griner marched his squad down the field, picking apart chunks in the defense, when finally star back Demetrice Rolle punched in a quick 1 yard TD Rush, cutting the lead 21-6.
As the final whistle blew from tonight’s hot and humid affair, the opposing sideline drenched their coach in a refreshing Gatorade bath, as Dwyer secured their first win of the 2024 season.
