West Palm Beach, FL — Cardinal Newman has added a proven playmaker with the transfer of 2028 Wide Receiver Justin Barrera from Atlantic High School in Delray Beach. Over the two varsity seasons with the Eagles, Barrera totaled 735 receiving yards on 59 catches with 9 touchdowns, developing into one of the more productive young receivers in Palm Beach County. Justin Barrera previously ranked as the #2 Player in the NewEraPrep Pre Season Class of 2028 Ranking last fall.

Recruiting Momentum Building

Barrera’s production and upside have already drawn significant college attention early in his high school career. He currently holds 5 Division I offers from:
Auburn, Florida Atlantic, Western Kentucky, Florida International University (FIU), University of South Florida (USF).

College coaches have noted several traits that make Barrera a standout prospect amongst his class: Advanced route-running ability for his class, Strong separation skills in short and intermediate routes, Explosiveness after the catch, Competitive edge and “dawg mentality”, Versatility to play inside or outside

Recruiters have especially pointed to his polish at a young age, noting that his ability to understand coverages and attack leverage sets him apart from many receivers in the 2028 class.

Built on Faith and Mentality

Barrera says his time at Atlantic shaped him both as a player and a person.

“What I learned from Coach Murray was to just always keep God first no matter what and just strive to always be the best version of myself no matter the circumstances, and to always play with that dawg mentality.”

That mentality has fueled his confidence heading into this new chapter.

Why Cardinal Newman? When it came time to transfer, Barrera focused on finding the best fit for his development and future.

“I chose Newman because I like their coaching staff and they have a very great program that I can’t wait to be a part of. I feel Newman is a great fit for me and the best choice for my future.”

And he’s making it clear he’s not coming quietly.

“Newman can expect a dawg out of me! A real route runner and great athlete that’s coming over there to make a statement right away and a player that’s gonna help them get another state title, believe that.”

With two seasons of varsity experience, verified production, and five Division I offers already on the table, Barrera arrives at Cardinal Newman looking to elevate his recruitment even further and help push the Crusaders toward another State Championship.
