Friday night starts a new season of football in Palm Beach County, the Postseason. While a lot of teams from Palm Beach County didn’t make the final cut, some had the opportunity to make it. This game features two special storylines. For the King’s Academy, this will be their first home playoff game since 2020 when they lost to Calvary Christian. For Somerset Canyons, this will be their first playoff game since 2018.

Both teams find each other in a familiar space as the two teams faced off against each other in Week 3 which saw a commanding win for King’s Academy 40-10. Since the meeting between the two, Somerset went 5-2 in their last seven games, flexing a 7-3 overall record. Since the meeting, King’s Academy has gone 5-1 in the last seven (Inlet Grove game never happened), flexing a 8-2 record and securing a spot in the higher half of the Region 3 bracket.

Taking a look at the King’s Academy, here are some of their stand out players that could make an impact on Friday’s matchup;

  • QB – Joe Dailey
    • Dailey comes into this matchup just under 200 yards shy of the 1000 passing yard mark on the season, expect him to potentially surpass that mark coming into Friday night, Dailey also sports a career high 17 touchdowns. The Junior QB looks to get his first career playoff win.
  • RB – Marion Victor
    • The King’s Academy RB room is one of many good squads to come out of Palm Beach County this season, leading this RB room is Marion Victor. Victor comes into this game with 1116 rushing yards on the season, Victor also sports 11 touchdowns on the season.
  • ATH – Javian Jones
    • Javian has been a threat for Kings on both sides of the ball, on offense, Jones comes into the game just under 600 receiving yards, boasting 11 touchdowns on offense. On defense Jones shows up as a coverage threat as he has 6 interceptions at his name.
  • ATH – Reggie Workman
    • Workman has been a versatile tool for the King’s Academy offense, getting time as a RB and a WR. Workman has just under 500 receiving yards on the season but has 10 receiving touchdowns on the year. Workman will be looking to make a memorable impact in the playoffs this year as he is a senior.

Taking a look at Somerset, here are some of their stand out players that could make an impact on Friday’s matchup;

  • RB – Tristan Johnson
    • This season was a record breaking year for Johnson, the senior running back became the first player in program history to cross the 1000 yard mark on the season. Johnson also has 16 touchdowns on the season, proving to be a big threat for opposing teams on the ground. Johnson will look to continue his memorable campaign by helping Somerset avenge their Week 3 loss to Kings.
  • QB – Jayden Harrington
    • Alongside his RB, Harrington has also had a very memorable campaign this season. The Junior QB has over 2000 yards to his name this season alone, giving Somerset a big advantage in the passing game. Harrington also has 20 touchdowns on the season, much like Dailey for Kings, Harrington will be looking to secure his first playoff win for Somerset
  • ATH – Tayegan Briskey
    • Briskey has proven this season that he is a threat on both sides of the ball. On offense, Briskey has 833 receiving yards, boasting 9 receiving touchdowns to his name. On the defensive side, Briskey has 22 tackles and 4 interceptions. In a backfield full of young talent Briskey has emerged amongst the crowd as the difference maker.

2M has many memorable matchups as this might be one of the hardest groups to win a championship this year in, as the state classification boasts many top tier teams in the state such as American Heritage-Plantation, Cardinal Gibbons, Miami Norland, Booker T. Washington, Miami Central, Calvary Christian (Clearwater), and Raines.

This matchup between the two teams is in the middle of the table as King’s Academy will be seeded as the 4th and Somerset will be seeded as the 5th. Whoever wins this game will go on to face the winner of the American Heritage-Plantation and North Broward Prep game in the Semifinals next week on November 17th.
