San Antonio, TX.- Only Gators come out alive.

Tonight (April 5), the Florida Gators took on the Auburn Tigers to kick off the 2025 Final Four. This SEC on SEC matchup marks the 6th inter-conference game in Final 4 history.

Early in tonight’s game, the Gators and Tigers traded blows, but Auburn began to pull away. Auburn commenced the game with high intensity, quickly establishing a lead through effective ball movement and sharp shooting, while Johni Broome dominated the paint, contributing significantly to the Tigers’ offense. Chad Baker-Mazara added to the momentum with an elite showing from behind the arc. By halftime, Auburn led 46-38, and showed no signs of stopping.

The Gators responded assertively after the break. Walter Clayton Jr. spearheaded the comeback, igniting a 13-3 run early in the half that erased the deficit and shifted momentum in Florida’s favor. Clayton’s relentless drives and accurate shooting were pivotal during this stretch.

Midway through the second half, Alijah Martin’s consecutive three-pointers further energized the Gators, giving them their first lead since early in the game. Defensively, Florida intensified their pressure, forcing turnovers and limiting Auburn’s scoring opportunities.

In the final minutes, with the game hanging in the balance, Clayton Jr. continued to deliver under pressure, scoring 10 points in the last 4:29. As Walter Clayton continued to let the three ball fly, Thomas Haugh contributed a crucial and-one play, further solidifying the Gators’ advantage.

Walter Clayton Jr. once again delivered an exceptional performance, scoring 34 points, including five three-pointers. Of his 34 points, Clayton scored 20 in the second 20 minutes of the match. The National Player of the Year Finalist continues to impress, cementing himself in the ranks of March Madness legends.

Alijah Martin complimented Walter Clayton with 17 points, playing a crucial role in Florida’s comeback. The FAU transfer ignited sparks across the Alamodome with deep threes and jaw dropping dunks.

Auburn attempted a late rally, but Florida’s dialed in defense and clock management stunted their efforts. The Gators secured the 79-73 victory, sending Florida to their first National Title since their 2006-07 back to back ‘Chips. Florida will face off against the winner of Duke v Houston on Monday (April 7). Tip off is slated for 8:50 PM.
