The San Francisco 49ers bolstered their defensive line by selecting Georgia edge rusher Mykel Williams with the 11th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.  Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 267 pounds, Williams brings a rare combination of size, athleticism, and versatility to the 49ers’ front seven.

During his three seasons at Georgia, Williams showcased his disruptive capabilities, accumulating 28 tackles and 4.5 sacks in 2022, 18 tackles and a forced fumble in 2023, and 21 tackles, five sacks, and two forced fumbles in 2024. His consistent performance earned him Freshman All-American honors in 2022 and Second-Team All-SEC selections in both 2023 and 2024.

Williams’ ability to line up across multiple positions on the defensive line adds a layer of flexibility to the 49ers’ defensive schemes. His natural power and knack for penetrating the backfield make him a valuable asset in both pass-rushing and run-stopping situations. While scouts note that he has room to refine his hand technique and expand his pass-rush repertoire, the 49ers’ coaching staff is optimistic about his development trajectory.

Pairing Williams with All-Pro defensive end Nick Bosa could create a formidable edge-rushing duo, reminiscent of the 49ers’ dominant defensive fronts in recent years. As San Francisco aims to return to Super Bowl contention, Williams’ addition signifies a commitment to reinforcing the team’s defensive prowess.

With his collegiate success and high ceiling, Mykel Williams is poised to make an immediate impact in the NFL, and the 49ers’ faithful have reason to be excited about this new chapter in their defensive legacy.
