PALM BEACH GARDENS- Palm Beach Gardens kicker, Gavin Newby (’24) is the 561 Special Teams player of Week 8!

Newby was voted on by 33% of our viewers. For those that do not know, you can find all of our weekly superlatives on the New Era Prep Twitter account!

When asked about being named Special Teams Player of the Week, Gavin said:

“Winning Special Teams MVP means a lot to me considering, how hard I’ve worked in the offseason not only kicking but at my other positions as well.” Newby said. “There’s a lot of high end kickers in Palm Beach County, I’m honored to be considered as one. Thank you to everyone who voted for me.”

In last week’s (October 12) 34-0 district victory at Royal Palm Beach, Newby shinned on special teams, going 4/4 PAT’s, 3 Touchbacks, and 2 Punts inside the 10. Regardless of field position, Newby’s leg was automatic. When asked about his performance against Royal Palm, Gavin said:

“Last week, we dominated and it was just a great team win. Everyone played extremely well, it was a smooth game on all three phases of the game.” Newby said. “I was happy with my performance, it was another day in the office. Go out, hit your PAT’s and launch the kickoffs.”

After a strong first half of his senior season, Gavin was named to the New Era Prep mid-season top 70 for the 2024 class (#56). Newby was one of three senior place kickers named to the list (Jake Weinberg #4, Nic Cueto #64).

Congratulations Gavin Newby for being named Special Teams Player of Week 8! Newby and the Palm Beach Gardens Gators will host Palm Beach Central on Friday, October 20. Kickoff is slated for 4:30 P.M.
