TREASURE COAST – After five regular season games played, we are starting to see clearly which teams represent the class of the Treasure Coast area.

As with any other week, we look at a few factors in ranking our area’s programs. So with that said, here are the top three determinants on how the Top 10 turned out this week – in order:

•Strength of overall team

•Strength of schedule

•Wins and losses

A fourth determinant serves as a key to how far a team will drop – if it loses a game in a blowout:

•Margin of loss

In consultation with a host of coaches from the entire Treasure Coast area, we have decided on the Top 10 will look like this week.

After reading the entire Top 10 for yourself, read on for all the details of how we assembled this particular team ranking iteration.

HONEST IMPRESSIONS

1. Jensen Beach swap with Treasure Coast

Even through both teams lost their Week 5 games, the quality of their opponents are vastly different from one another.

We are now in what we can call a correction period. This may seem tough to do when it comes to a team’s record, as this season has proved to date.

But over time, the tough actions become necessary and we sometimes must prioritize a team’s overall schedule above all else – provided that the performance was at respectable in a loss.

2. Sebastian River swap with South Fork

This swap is somewhat different in that it involves a head-to-head matchup that already took place.

While South Fork won the head-to-head earlier this season, we cannot ignore what Sebastian River accomplished on the road in Week 5. A 10-6 win over a favored Port St. Lucie team was no easy task. It came down to the final minutes of the game for Sebastian River to secure the victory.

For a team that is currently 3-1, we must show some respect to Sebastian River when it comes to its body of work to date.

3. All other teams remain in their places from last week.

PLEASE NOTE: We will consult with coaches from the majority of our 14 Treasure Coast teams before each weekly Top 10 list is released. This ensures that the best possible order is published and all 14 teams are fairly represented.
