WEST PALM BEACH – Josh Philostin has been relatively quiet this summer.

For the Cardinal Newman defensive back, it has been about him positioning himself as well as possible for his upcoming senior season.

Philostin participated in no camps and no 7-on-7 tournaments. He also is nowhere near close to making his final college decision.

At this time, Philostin has 30 college scholarship offers. They include – in alphabetical order:

The 247Sports, Rivals, and On3 three-star shared his current recruiting status on his Twitter account yesterday (July 24).

The ESPN 300 Recruiting four-star spoke on it some more.

“I have no leaders right now,” Philostin said. “I’m trying to figure out when I want to commit now. Unsure on a date as of right now. Don’t know if I want to make one before the season or during.”

As Philostin has made it crystal clear where he stands on his recruiting process, we can look back on his stellar junior season at Cardinal Newman. Here are his statistics in 12 games played.

•8 touchdowns (4 receiving, 3 pick-sixes, 1 kick return)
•4 interceptions
•6 pass breakups
•18 tackles
•20 receptions for 307 yards

Philostin’s best individual game was in Week 1 at Pahokee. Here are his statistics from last season’s opener that resulted in a 40-12 road win.

•2 touchdowns (1 receiving, 1 pick-six)
•4 receptions for 91 yards
•4 pass breakups

Philostin on the Pahokee game:

“Us just being the underdog made us fight harder,” he said. “We really wanted to go out there and prove something.”

Philostin on how his junior season turned out this past year:

“I’d say it went pretty well,” he said. “I know we came up short, but I feel like we made a big improvement from the prior year. As a team we got better and better week in and week out. We made history, going 10-0 for the first time since 1982. Individually I think I did well. I made some big-time plays for my team all year.”

As a result of his stellar junior season, Philostin earned the following honors:

•First Team All-County (Palm Beach Post and Sun-Sentinel)
•Second Team All-State: Class 3A

Philostin credited Crusaders head coach Jack Daniels and his coaching staff for the success he has achieved to date.

“Coach Jack is a great coach,” he said. “He helps out in more ways than just football. He’s always trying to help out any way he can. He really look out for his players and got their backs. I can say the same with the rest of the staff. Great coaches who are even better people off the field.”

And now that we are about 30 days away from the start of this upcoming fall season, Philostin has shared his goals.

•12+ touchdowns
•6 interceptions

“I don’t really have many individual goals,” he said. “I just want to lead my team to a state championship.”
