WELLINGTON – No one could stop Palm Beach Central wide receiver Bryan Robinson, not even the soggy field.
Robinson, a senior who holds offers to some of the best schools in the country, scored five receiving touchdowns for Palm Beach Central in its 49-42 victory over Centennial in the Class 8A-Region 3 quarterfinals this past Friday night (Nov. 8).
“He’s a great player. He is who he is for a reason, he’s highly recruited and he’s a great kid,” Palm Beach Central head coach Scottie Littles said about Robinson. “Like I tell people all the time, what makes Bryan Robinson great isn’t what he does on the football field, it’s how he conducts himself off [the field].”
Following a 31-yard touchdown to Centennial’s Datwan Blackwood, Palm Beach Central quarterback Anarjahe Douriet connected with Robinson on a short slant pass that Robinson took all the way for a 68-yard touchdown, putting the Broncos down just one point at 7-6.
Later in the quarter, Robinson scored his second touchdown to take the lead, this time on a 70-yard touchdown pass from Douriet.
Following a 27-yard touchdown catch by Robinson, his third of the game, and a fumble recovery for a touchdown by Cedric Williamson, the Broncos went into the half leading Centennial 27-22.
In the second half, it was much of the same for the Broncos offense, as big plays helped push the Broncos even further ahead.
The Broncos first struck on Robinson’s fourth touchdown of the game, this time from just 10 yards out. The touchdown put the Broncos in the driver’s seat, up 34-22.
Following Blackwood’s third touchdown of the game, Robinson scored his fifth on a 39-yard touchdown catch from Douriet, who finished with six passing touchdowns in the game.
Robinson’s five touchdown catches propelled him to be crowned our MVP of Week 12.
Late in the third quarter, the Broncos would take a commanding 49-28 lead thanks to Douriet’s 74-yard touchdown pass to Kai’Shawn Curry.
Although Centennial cut the deficit to just seven points thanks to Blayne Watkins’ touchdown passes to Blackwood and Chad Arensen, the onside kick to potentially give Centennial a chance to win or tie the game would fall into the hands of Palm Beach Central.
“We fought, we played really well, lot of ups and downs. Centennial is a good team. Their 5-5 record is deceiving,” Littles said. “I didn’t like the way we finished. But at the end of the day, this time of the year we’re winning and we’re still playing and that’s what we’re here for.”
No. 3/No. 2 seed Palm Beach Central (9-2) will host No. 3 seed Deerfield Beach (8-3) on Friday night (Nov. 15; 7:30 p.m. kickoff), who defeated No. 7/No. 6 seed Palm Beach Gardens 53-9 in its 8A Region 3 quarterfinal game last Friday night (Nov. 8).
