Girls Basketball: Oxbridge Academy topples Boca Raton.

WEST PALM BEACH – The lady Thunderwolves proved themselves to be worthy of a No. 1 ranking after defeating top ranked Boca Raton 57-35.

Oxbridge Academy and Boca Raton would start off slow but pick it up midway through the first quarter.

Alexa Zaph would hit a pair of threes to give the Lady Thunderwolves a 14-5 lead going into the second quarter.

Hannah Pratt would show up in the second with a big block on defense and knock down a three-pointer that put some life back into the Lady Bobcats bench.

Brooke McDonald would knock down a long two with a little under a minute left in the second quarter and cut into Oxbridge’s lead. The Lady Thunderwolves would end the first half with a bang as Kaylon Smith knocked down a three at the buzzer and go into halftime with a 27-21 lead.

The Lady Bobcats would come out of halftime firing and go on a 5-0 run that ended on a three pointer by Oxbridge’s Haley Howarth.

Oxbridge’s Aaliyah Stanley would get fouled and go to the free throw line and knock down one of her two free throws. The game would be stopped with 2:42 left in the third quarter as Stanley hit the 1,000 point mark.

Stanley threw the game ball to her trainer in the crowd coach Garrick Black. She would later go on to end the third quarter with a buzzer-beating layup.

The Lady Bobcats continued to struggle in the fourth quarter to get anything going as the Lady Thunderwolves played harassing defense and went on a huge run to down the lady bobcats 57-35.

When asked about the future of the lady Thunderwolves coach Wolfe stated “We’re a special team and a family. We play for each other, we play together, and we love each other. Hopefully we can win a state championship this year.”
