WEST PALM BEACH – Over the weekend, Stenton Quaye reflected on his performance against Glades Day.

The King’s Academy Lions senior linebacker was selected as our Breakthrough Player of Week 2, as he recorded a team-high 8 tackles (2 tackles for loss) in a 41-20 road win over the Gators on Sept. 18.

“It feels great,” the 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker said. “I definitely could have had a better game, and I will this week. But it feels good to be noticed.”

In two games played, Quaye has recorded 16 tackles (2 TFL’s) and 1 safety, which he got in Week 1’s 33-27 home win over Lemon Bay.

Quaye (No. 3 outside linebacker; No. 38 overall player in Palm Beach County) has emerged as the King’s Academy leader on defense, alongside junior linebacker Stephen Scroggins.

“It’s a surreal feeling,” Quaye said. “It really puts everything into perspective with me and Stephen being the leaders in the middle. Everything goes through us, and you can see it as if I mess up, we lose or you can see it as we control the defense. If we play and lead well, we will win. We have chosen to be the latter, and so far we’ve only gotten better.”

Quaye will lead King’s Academy (2-0) into Week 3, when the program faces off against Cardinal Newman (0-1) on Friday, Sept. 25. The Lions will be at home against the Crusaders (7 p.m. kickoff), with no spectators allowed at the game.

“I’d expect a great all-around game and a big win, where we finally mesh together for four quarters,” Quaye said.
