The Las Vegas Raiders made a bold move in the 2025 NFL Draft by selecting Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty with the No. 6 overall pick. Jeanty, widely regarded as the top running back in this year’s class, brings a dynamic skill set to a Raiders offense in need of a ground game resurgence.

Standing at 5-foot-9 and weighing 210 pounds, Jeanty combines power, agility, and vision, making him a threat between the tackles and in open space. His ability to catch passes out of the backfield adds versatility to his game, providing quarterback Geno Smith with a reliable check-down option.

The Raiders’ rushing attack struggled in the 2024 season, averaging an NFL-low 79.8 yards per game. Head coach Pete Carroll, known for his commitment to the run game, is expected to integrate Jeanty as a focal point of the offense. Jeanty’s arrival could revitalize the Raiders’ ground game, balancing the offensive attack and opening up opportunities in the passing game.

Jeanty’s selection also marks a shift in draft trends, as running backs have become less common in the top 10 picks in recent years. However, his unique talent and the Raiders’ specific needs made this a strategic choice. Fans are optimistic that Jeanty will become a cornerstone of the team’s offense, leading a new era of Raiders football.
