Hodgson’s departure comes after guiding USF to its second regular season American championship, first American Tournament Championship in program history and first appearance in March Madness since 2012.

Finishing the season with a program record of 25 wins, Hodgson brought USF back to the top of the American.

Making the move to Providence puts him in the Big East where Providence finished 9th with its season ending in the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament.

USF CEO of Athletics Rob Higgins put out a post on X saying “…we have been preparing for this possibility in recent weeks. This includes working diligently to put our program in prime position to land the perfect leader to not only build on this special season.”

Hodgson’s departure leaves USF at a crossroads, coming off a historic season yet facing uncertainty as it looks to sustain its momentum. While his tenure in Tampa was brief, the impact was undeniable, setting a new standard for what the program can achieve moving forward.
