Cyril, the 6’11 upcoming junior out of Nigeria, brings immediate experience and defense to Miami after a breakout season from him in the SEC. In 2025-26 with the Bulldogs, Cyril averaged 9.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, and stood out most with an impressive blocks per game average of 2.34, leading the SEC. He also shot an efficient 75.9% from the floor.
Known most for his protection at the rim, Cyril started in 32 games for the Bulldogs in 2025 and led a defense that relied heavily on him in the paint. Cyril earned himself SEC All-Defensive Team honors this past year and was on the watch list for Naismith National Defensive Player of the Year.
For head coach Jai Lucas and his Hurricanes moving forward, the addition addresses a major need in the paint after losing senior Ernest Udeh Jr. The size Cyril brings in along with his physicality around the rim will give the Canes a boost in paint presence on both ends of the floor.
With Somto Cyril reportedly visiting Miami this weekend and being one of the top players linked to the Hurricanes, just what could they have in the Georgia transfer?

As Miami continues to reshape their roster heading into next season, the landing of a proven SEC starter is a great start in emphasizing the toughness and defensive identity Lucas is looking to install in this program.
