The Kentucky Wildcats have been on a roll lately when it comes to recruiting, and that continued when they landed one of the best running backs in the state of Florida.

Kelsey Gerald, who held offers from programs like UCLA, Virginia Tech, and many others, committed to the Wildcats on Thursday. In Rivals’ article discussing the commitment, Gerald spoke about why he chose Kentucky over his other suitors.

“Kentucky showed me constant love from day one. Going up to the school and meeting the coaches showed me real brotherhood and what a real program is supposed to look like. Just talking with coaches and watching them run a practice, I put my future and trust in Kentucky’s hands.”

Additionally, Gerald spoke about his excitement to join what head coach Will Stein and his staff are building in Lexington.

“I feel as if they have something big brewing, and I want to be a part of it early. Showing me and telling me I have an opportunity to play if I have my stuff together is something I can’t turn down. Kentucky made me feel like home, and I’m trusting everyone on that stuff to make me the best back in the nation.”

Having a chance to watch Gerald this spring, the Wildcats are getting something special with the Santacluces standout.

The running back possesses high-level speed and athleticism that he uses on an every-down basis. Gerald combines that with a smoothness that is not common at the high school level; the running back uses his vision to find the right lanes and explodes into the open field when he makes a decision. Gerald is also a nightmare to tackle in the open field, using that same athleticism and strength to create big plays. Additionally, Gerald is a fun weapon in the passing game. Whether it is the screen game or as a route runner all over the field, Gerald has the ability to be a multi-faceted contributor.

A big 2026 season lies ahead for Gerald, as he is one of the standouts on a very talented Santaluces team. Kentucky fans should watch with great interest, as the running back will have plenty of opportunities to show the type of skillset that will be arriving in Lexington in 2027.
