This deal serves as a monumental reunion between the biggest brand in college sports, alongside the largest global sports apparel brand.
The ‘Canes had a 28 year deal with the Swoosh starting in 1987 and ending in 2015, when Miami joined the 3 stripe life of Adidas.
According to Jackson, Nike’s deal with UM will be worth more than $20 M annually (2/3 cash, rest in apparel).
Compare this to Adidas’ current contract with Miami that includes a $6.5M annual payment, it’s clear Miami chose the more financially beneficial option.
Miami now becomes the main (non-Oregon) flagship school repping the Check, a void quickly filled after Tennessee left for Adidas this fall.
Over the years, it’s become quite a discourse by Hurricanes fans on social media about the quality of how Adidas uniforms and other apparel look on tv and in person.
The verdict is clear, Miami needed change, and Nike needed Miami.
