High school football rolls on in Florida!
The Benjamin Buccaneers and the Somerset Academy Stallions are set to do battle on Thursday night. Both teams will be looking to get back on track in 2026; Benjamin currently sits at 1-2, while Somerset Academy sits at 1-3. There will be some fun talent on the field, and it is shaping up to be a good game between the two teams.
As always, I have everything you need to know ahead of the game! It is time for another New Era Prep game preview!
Players to Watch: Benjamin
- Jayden Cosby-Mosley, DB: One of Benjamin’s star players, Cosby-Mosley has been everywhere to start the 2026 season. Even with his team starting 1-3, the defensive back has amassed 22 total tackles, four tackles for loss, and a sack. He has already notched four interceptions and has two defensive touchdowns. Cosby-Mosley is instinctive, has impressive athleticism, and can make an impact in a variety of ways. He will be a major factor for Benjamin in this matchup.
- Zaydin Fleuridor, ATH: A freshman for Benjamin, Fleuridor has been a key player on both sides of the ball in 2026. Offensively, he has nine receptions for 241 yards and four touchdowns. Defensively, Fleuridor has eight total tackles for the Buccaneers. With the speed and athleticism to make an impact on any play, expect the two-way standout to be a key factor for Benjamin in this game.
- Cohen Roach, QB: In three games for Benjamin this season, Cohen Roach has had some highs and lows. Despite struggling against Pahokee in his last game, the quarterback has otherwise amassed over 300 passing yards and five passing touchdowns this season. Roach has the touch and accuracy to be a fun player for the offense. I am very interested to see how he bounces back this week against Somerset Academy.
Players to Watch: Somerset Academy
- Matthew Guevara, QB: Guevara is coming off of his best game of the year, throwing for 253 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for a touchdown. Against a talented Benjamin secondary, the Stallions’ quarterback will need to be at his best on Thursday night.
- David Romero, WR: One of the Stallions’ leading receivers, Romero will likely be a key target for Guevara and the offense on Thursday night. Already up to 125 yards on the season, the wideout will look to add to his total against Benjamin.
- Travis Jacinthe, ATH: A player who contributes on both sides for Somerset Academy, Jacinthe could be one of the more important players for the Stallions in this game. Offensively, he has a rushing touchdown and 49 yards in three games. Defensively, Jacinthe already has 40 total tackles on the season, along with one tackle for loss.
Keys to Victory: Benjamin
- Hit the Explosive Plays: To win on Thursday night, Benjamin will need explosive plays from their offense. Whether on the ground or through the air, the Buccaneers have to make an impact on offense early in the matchup. If they can execute at a high level, they should be in a great spot to win.
- Be Aggressive on Defense: Possessing a good overall unit, Benjamin needs to get after Somerset Academy early and often on Thursday. Specifically, they need to pressure the Stallions on passing downs and look to cause turnovers.
Keys to Victory: Somerset Academy
- Execute the Offense: The skill talent is there for Somerset Academy, but they just need to execute against Benjamin. It will not be an easy task, especially in the air, as Benjamin has some very talented players in the secondary. How they fare in this regard will swing the game in a positive or negative direction.
- Win the Turnover Battle: In a game on the road, the turnover battle is critical for Somerset Academy. The Stallions need to force a turnover or two on defense, while also keeping the ball safe when on offense. If they can execute at a high level in this regard, Somerset Academy will have a good chance to compete in this game.
