Tonight has been circled on the calendar since Spring. Cardinal Newman is finally set to travel to Atlantic in a game that’s homecoming for many.

Atlantic, 3-1 is hosting their first home game of the season after they had their first three on the road, followed by a bye-followed by a cancellation. The well-rested Eagles have three solid wins over Spanish River, Pahokee, and Blanche Ely. Their lone loss was to Vero Beach in Champ Monds final High School Game.

The new-look Eagles have had a lot to figure out and so far it’s happened, this game will no doubt be their biggest test of the season so far as they look to make a playoff push.

As for Cardinal Newman, it’s homecoming. The Crusaders’ starting QB, Pedro Martinez and #2 Receiver Justin Barerra transferred over from Atlantic this spring as Newman looks to reload and win another state championship.

The Crusaders boast a 4-1 record with their lone loss coming to West Boca a few weeks ago.

Tonight will be about execution, the Crusaders need to rely on what’s been working for them, Janarro Sumpter has come up big game after game offensively, and the defense has allowed them to win games.

On the other hand, Atlantic’s offense HAS to get it going early, if they can get explosive plays and score over 28 points, this game will get really interesting. They have operated with two QBs so far, Max Griner and Nicholas Pouncey. Whoever is behind center tonight has to get this offense rolling now and down the stretch of the season.

We’re coming home: Atlantic is set to host Cardinal Newman tonight at 6:30pm on Atlantic Avenue.

New Era Prep will be reporting live.
