WELLINGTON – Ahmad Haston wants himself and his teammates to be the best they all can be.
But first, the Palm Beach Central incoming sophomore quarterback needed some game experience to excel in a leadership role. He got that in a backup role last season as a freshman, gaining 500+ yards in the air and 130 yards on the ground with 6 total touchdowns and 3 interceptions.
“It was like I got a taste of a whole new football lifestyle, as far as the tough workouts go and getting to speak with college coaches for the first time,” the 6-foot-2, 170-pound quarterback said. “But I most definitely felt home, and I think the senior class helped with that a lot.”
Haston said he learned a lot from former Palm Beach Central quarterback and now-alum Anarjahe Douriet, who will look to secure a walk-on opportunity at UCF this fall.
“I gained lots of knowledge from him to improve my game mentally and physically,” Haston said of Douriet. “He really took making me better as a priority. He would practice with me extra after practice, the day after our games, and he still helps me to this day. He is definitely one of the few I’m which I consider close, and I wish him nothing but the best at UCF.”
Haston’s best game as a freshman was in Week 9 against Jupiter, when he completed seven passes, including a 56-yard touchdown pass to help his team earn a 42-13 blowout win.
“That’s when I began to start learning and memorizing my coverages good,” Haston said.
With that said, the offseason has been a great experience for Haston. One milestone moment came when he received his first offer from Virginia, which is a rising Power 5 school in the ACC.
“I was humbled and very excited to know that I achieved one of the many milestones I’m striving for in my high school career,” Haston said.
Speaking of that, Haston has a chance to help Palm Beach Central reach new heights in the next three seasons ahead. He headlines an amazing 2023 class for the Broncos, which will include the likes of wide receivers Javorian Wimberly and Luby Maurice Jr.
Haston on his natural connection with Wimberly:
“Me and Quion (Javorian Wimberly) played on the same team in pop warner where we won a championship,” Haston said. “We played 8-on-8 with each other before the start of high school, and every game we had at least 1 or 2 touchdown connections per game. And when high school came, our bond grew a lot and we started doing everything together. We make each other better daily, and if we do everything right, we will be at the top of any list this year.”
Wimberly on Haston:
“Oh Ahmad, he’s a very cool guy off the field,” Wimberly said. “He’s down to work out any time. He’s funny and he doesn’t have much to say about things. He’s kind of link a laid back person.”
Going right back to Haston’s relationships, he has also built some chemistry with Maurice Jr.
“He is gonna be a top target for me this year and the coming years,” Haston said. “Whenever I see him, I see Bryan Robinson.”
Haston envisions a potential dynasty for the next several years ahead at Palm Beach Central. With his class being on the same page, it can happen with help from the likes of offensive linemen Christipher Cirillo and Jaiden Hodgson, outside linebacker Aramiain Fraiser, safety Jason LaLoi, and cornerback Trevonne Williams.
“We’re gonna turn a lot of heads this year,” Haston said. “Every single college is going to be pleased with us because the Class of 2023 is just too deep at Palm Beach Central. We will have at least 10-12 Division I players coming out of Central because we all hold each other accountable and make each other better. We came up with each other, which makes it even better. A lot of names are gonna be coming up by the end of this season. Just wait and see.”
