BOCA RATON – Boca Raton (3-2) took down Olympic Heights (1-4) Thursday night in 40-0 shutout to secure their first home victory.
After having a 45-minute lightning delay prior to the 6:30 pm kickoff, nothing could get in the way of Boca Raton’s mission of being “1-0”, which is its team motto this year.
Both squads had a slow start to the game. But Boca Raton ultimately put its foot on the gas with the first score coming on a reverse handoff to senior Colby Hidalgo, who is one of the team’s top players this year.
Freshman quarterback Chance Routson connected with senior tight end Sebastien Saint-Louis late in the first quarter to put the Bobcats up by 14.
The pair connected on three touchdown passes for the night, including another one that happened in the second quarter.
“We saw the defense they were running and what would be effective,” Routson said. “We knew what would happen.”
Saint-Louis added his take on the touchdown connection.
“We’re getting better at our craft and trusting in our offense,” Saint-Louis said. “We had a very simple game plan of executing, and that’s what we did tonight. Execute.”
Routson would finish the game with a total of four passing touchdowns, one of which went to senior wideout Sean Wilocks.
Olympic Heights could not get much going all night as promising drives ended with Boca’s defensive backs coming up with interceptions – three in total.
Sophomore Damien Taylor set things off for the Bobcats with an interception that killed a drive where Olympic Heights had multiple first downs and was moving toward the red zone.
Defensive Player of the Game Tyrese Simon was a complete ballhawk Thursday with his two-interception performance that put an end to multiple Olympic Heights offensive drives.
“We knew we had to bounce back,” Simon said. “We knew this game had to be a statement game. The goal was to execute the plays and get a shutout.”
Simon continued by speaking on how his two interceptions happened.
“I could read what they were doing from watching film,” Simon said. “My coaches put me in a great position to make plays on the ball.”
Boca Raton head coach David Angell was very content with the team’s win as he spoke in a postgame interview.
“Get better at what we do,” Angell said. “That’s the mission we’ve been preaching all week.”
Angell talked about his team’s upcoming district opponent Park Vista.
“We’re looking forward to it. It’s going to be a battle,” Angell said. “It’s going to be an important week for us.”
Olympic Heights will be on the road in Coconut Creek to take on fellow District 12-4M opponent Monarch (4-1) in Week 6. This game will be held on Friday, Sept. 30 with a 7 p.m kickoff time.
