Boys Basketball: Dwyer pushes past Forest Hill with fourth quarter surge

PALM BEACH GARDENS – Both Dwyer and Forest Hill entered tonight’s game with identical 19-1 records. They were playing each other for district supremacy.

The crowd was rocking before the game as the stands were filled to see the two powerhouses face off.

The first quarter would be a power struggle as both teams fought to get an edge.

Javonni Quince made two big plays in the first quarter as he made a three-pointer and drove hard to the basket for two points to give Dwyer a 17-12 lead at end of the first.

Forest Hill would surge back in the second quarter and play suffocating defense to take a 22-19 lead at the 4:30 mark. The Falcons continued their roll in the second after Jalen Jackson stole the ball and got the crowd hyped up with a monster slam dunk.

The Falcons had the momentum going into halftime with a 28-26 lead.

Both teams played each other close in the third as they traded baskets and played tough defense on one another. The third frame ended in a 37-37 tie.

Dwyer would take over early in the fourth quarter and go on a 17-2 run to gain a 54-39 lead over Forest Hill with a little over two minutes left in the game. The Panthers would not let up the rest of the fourth quarter as they cruised to a 59-46 victory.
