Boys Basketball: Palm Beach Lakes rallies past Atlantic for 85-81 victory in double overtime

DELRAY BEACH – It took double overtime for Palm Beach Lakes to snatch the win from Atlantic.

The first quarter would hold much action as the Eagles jumped out to a 7-0 lead to start the game. Palm Beach Lakes would close the gap down to 7-5 midway through the first.

With a little under two minutes left in the first, Lakes would tie the game up by playing some stiff defense.

Junior guard Bryan Henry would hit a long range three-pointer to lift the Eagles to a 16-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Senior guard Rodwens Albert got Atlantic on the board fast in the second quarter, as he showed off his range with back-to-back long three-pointers.

The Eagles would keep pushing the ball on offense and go up 31-19 midway through the second quarter. Senior guard Bradley Renaud lead the team’s offensive run as he scored on three straight possessions.

Albert would strike again with a three-pointer in the second to push Atlantic’s lead to 39-19.

Lakes would score on a layup by senior guard Denzel Robinson, but Atlantic would go into halftime with a commanding 41-23 lead.

Albert and Renaud lead all scorers at the half with 17 and 15 points, respectively.

Palm Beach Lakes senior guard Ty Hands would get his team going early in the third with a three-pointer that fueled a 6-0 run. This would force Atlantic into a early time out.

Lakes junior guard Sheldon Edwards would heat up late in the third after knocking down two long range three-pointers.

Despite the Rams third-quarter surge, the Eagles would still have a huge lead. Junior guard Kadeem Wilks would knock down a three at the buzzer to push Atlantic’s lead to 58-42 lead at the end of the third.

Lakes Junior guard DuJuan Fripp would knock down back-to-back three-pointers to cut Atlantic’s lead down to 60-52 almost midway through the fourth quarter. Hands would make a monster dunk in the fourth cut Atlantic’s lead to six.

Atlantic would call a timeout midway through the fourth in an attempt to stop the Palm Beach Lakes’ momentum. But it didn’t work out, as Lakes would close the gap down in half with a three from Edwards.

With 2:26 left in the fourth, the Rams would completely erase their deficit to the Eagles, who led by 20 at one point. The game would be tied 65-65 after a offensive surge from the Rams.

Lakes would take its first lead of the night (67-65) with two minutes left in the game Hands knocked down two free throws. But Atlantic would tie the game back up at 67-67 with under a minute left.

Lakes would miss a three to win the game, which would effectively go to overtime.

Hands opened overtime with a huge three-pointer. But Atlantic’s Kadeem Wilks would knock down a three and tie the game at 72-72.

The game would go into double overtime at 76-all after Eagles junior guard Donaldson Beau-Frere fought through traffic to make a layup.

Hands would tie the game up at 81-81 after a long three with 40 seconds left in the second overtime.

The Rams would make their free throws by Hands and Steven Ayuso to down the Eagles in double overtime, 85-81.
