This development comes amid expectations that Jai Lucas, a former assistant coach at Duke, was named the next head coach for the Miami Hurricanes.

Moran is a well-known, respected, and eleite basketball coach and NBA skills trainer renowned for his efforts to player development and high school basketball eliteness. He is the founder of Miami Hoop School, a premier skills training program in South Florida, where he has been actively training athletes since 2008.
Moran has been at the helm of Columbus High School’s basketball program since 2019, leading the team to three consecutive Class 7A state championships. Under his guidance, the Explorers have achieved a 25-3 record this season and are currently ranked No. 1 nationally. His coaching prowess was recently recognized when he was named the 2025 Jersey Mike’s Naismith High School Boys Coach of the Year, making him the first coach from a Florida school, other than Montverde Academy’s Kevin Boyle, to receive this honor.
In addition to his high school coaching success, Moran is the founder of Miami Hoop School, where he has trained players at various levels, including NBA professionals. His potential move to the University of Miami is seen as a strategic effort to strengthen local recruiting ties and enhance player development within the Hurricanes’ basketball program.
Moran has also had the privilege of coaching some of Florida’s, and the country’s, best high school basketball players such as the infamous Boozer twins, Cameron and Cayden.
