Breaking News: One of South Florida’s premier defensive talents is staying home.

Moments ago 2027 3-Star EDGE/LB Jayvon Dawson from Santaluces announced his commitment to the University of Miami. Dawson chose the Hurricanes over Georgia, UNC, Georgia Tech and Purdue.

When asked what stood out the most about Miami in the final stages of his recruitment process, Jayvon stated:

“From being a kid just dreaming to go to Miami. It was a blessing when they gave me an offer….They started a great relationship with me and my family and showed that they wanted me. I love how they have so much faith and that is the key of winning games. I know that this team ,this family would help me develop as a man and as football player. IM READY TO BE A CANE! GABOS!”

After turning on the HUDL it’s clear why Dawson was a top priority for Miami. Jayvon Dawson provides positional versatility to his advantage, fortifying the middle of the field at linebacker or marking a stronghold in the trenches and coming off the edge. Dawson possesses wicked explosiveness off the snap. He’s a blink-or-you’ll-miss-him type player, where if an opposing lineman isn’t on his A-game- Jayvon is already in the backfield and the ball carrier is on the ground. Dawson also provides high upside in coverage, rounding him out as one of the top defenders in South Florida. 

During his junior season, Jayvon recorded 68 total tackles, 22 tackles for loss, 8 sacks, and 1 forced fumble.

Jayvon Dawson becomes the 13th commit in Miami’s top-10 2027 recruiting class. Dawson is also the 8th local commitment from the greater South Florida area.
