Morgantown, WV – BREAKING: Beechcraft’s Three-Star Defensive Back Tyrell Russell (’25) Announces He Will Flip Commitment from Toledo to West Virginia University

Russell announced his commitment Tuesday morning via social media in collaboration with @marxdsgn.

Tyrell Russell, a 5-foot-11 cornerback from Columbus, Ohio, has been a standout throughout his senior season. Known for his speed, Russell has impressed the coaching staff at WVU, who see him as a potential cornerback at the next level. He has posted multiple sub-11 second times in the 100-meter dash, including a personal best of 10.55 seconds as a junior.

Tyrell Russell, who committed to Toledo in July, received an offer from West Virginia in late November. WVU began to take notice of Russell following his standout senior season, which he averaged over 100 yards per game as a running back and recorded multiple interceptions as a cornerback.

When asked about his visit to Morgantown, Russell said:

”It was an amazing visit. As soon as I got there, everyone, including the coaches and players, made me and my family feel right at home. The players treated me like I was already part of the team. The academics are outstanding, and the business program, which I plan to major in, really stood out to me. With a 100% graduation rate and all the resources the school offers, it made it even harder to say no. I can definitely see myself at WVU. The coaching staff is committed to developing players, and I can see myself growing both as an athlete and as a person there.”

Russell is rated as a three-star prospect with an 87 rating by 247Sports, ranking as the nation’s No. 98 cornerback.
