Breakthrough Player of Week 4: Fowler Brothers

BELLE GLADE – A lack of communication ruins it all.

This is the mantra for Glades Central senior defensive standouts/twins Kevontey and Keontey Fowler, two players who understand it well. They live and breath the non-verbal talks, as well as the verbal ones.

It was evident in Week 4 against Park Vista, when cornerback Kevontey Fowler caught an interception and then seemingly ran it 80 yards for a touchdown. But the referees ruled him out of bounds at the Park Vista 10-yard line.

While Kevontey’s pick was a game-changer for Glades Central, it was a big hit by safety Keontey Fowler (Kevontey’s brother) that made the whole sequence possible.

Kevontey finished the game this past Saturday (Nov. 21) with three tackles, two big hits, and the interception in Glades Central’s 35-7 win over Park Vista.

As for Keontey, he had six tackles and three pass breakups in the regular season finale.

For the Fowler Brothers, it is not the statistics that define them. It is their combined presence on the field that will scare any offense, and already has in so many ways in this four-game regular season.

For these reasons and more, the Fowler Brothers have been chosen by our viewers as the Breakthrough Players of Week 4.

“It feels good,” Keontey said. “It feels like me and my brother are doing our jobs on the field.”

Glades Central senior defensive back, team leader, and MVP of Week 1 Jacob Camacho chimed in.

“They played good and made plays when we needed them too,” Camacho said of his teammates and close friends off the field.

Kevontey spoke on Keontey, who caught a pick and scored a touchdown in Week 1 against Palm Beach Central.

“My brother is a aggressive safety that loves to hit,” Kevontey said. “I know his weaknesses and I know his strengths. That’s why he is on my side wherever I go. Our communication is the greatest thing we have.”
