BOCA RATON – The first win this season for St. Andrews was one to remember.

It was a breakthrough performance from the Scots in their 39-0 road win over the Somerset Academy Canyons Cougars on Friday, Sept. 24. It was a breakthrough performance for junior athlete Bill Young, who had 18 carries for 135 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

For this reason, Young has earned himself our Breakthrough Player of Week 5.

“He just proved on film what he can do running the ball and he also had one spectacular catch,” St. Andrews head coach Jimmy Robertson said. “He is a dual threat running back.”

Young’s first touchdown came in the second quarter. It was a 17-yarder the the end zone that helped to gave St. Andrews (1-3) a 7-0 lead.

The next rushing score was in the third quarter, which helped to extend the lead to 21-0.

“We were on the goal line when I got a easy toss from Jack Didonna, which I ran in for a touchdown,” Young said.

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound athlete touched on his third rushing touchdown of the game, which helped to extend the Scots lead to 28-0 over the Cougars (0-3).

“My final touchdown happened in the third quarter also,” Young said. “We were about 20 yards out. I got the ball up the middle, followed my lineman, and scored.”

Robertson briefly recapped on how St. Andrews won this game.

“It came down to execution and protecting the football,” Robertson said. “And Bill is just a different player. Not many running back can do what he does.”
