WEST PALM BEACH – This past week was perhaps Jaydon Hood’s best performance yet as a linebacker.

He led his team with 18 tackles (four assists) in a 21-14 road win over Melbourne Central Catholic for the Week 6 tilt. It turned out to be the defining breakthrough moment that Hood has looked for all along.

“It took a lot of work to help my team and get ready for the game,” Hood said.

Cardinal Newman senior running back and MVP of Week 6 Chris D’Or was happy for Hood’s breakout performance, which garnered him our Breakthrough Player of Week 6 honor.

“It’s amazing,” D’or said. “He’s finally getting the recognition he deserves. Talk about a leader. He’s vocal, he’s physically gifted, plus he knows the game very well.”

Hood, who has an offer right now from FIU, has rightfully emerged as the team’s quarterback on defense.
He has made his overall impact felt in two games this season, which includes the Week 1 home game against Park Vista, a 13-2 win in which he scored a rushing touchdown.

We’ll find out how well Hood does tomorrow night (Oct. 4, 7 p.m. kickoff) at St. John Paul II.
