BOCA RATON – Jaylen Leggett is a force to be reckoned with.

This much was evident in last week’s St. John Paul II-Jupiter Christian game, when the junior made his impact felt in only a few plays. The 6-foot-2, 178-pound wide receiver caught three passes for 52 yards, but two of those catches were for touchdowns in his team’s 58-14 win at home on Thursday, Oct. 15.

Leggett’s best individual play was a long touchdown pass that he caught from Elijah Decastro in the fourth quarter. This turned out to be primary factor in him being our Breakthrough Player of Week 6.

“It feels great,” Leggett said. “It’s a blessing to earn that.”

Leggett spoke on his breakout game against Jupiter Christian.

“I had a chip on my shoulder,” Leggett said. “I came prepared to practice all last week for Jupiter Christian. I had a lot to prove, so I proved it on the field. I still have a lot to prove, so watch out for me and my team this week because we’re coming for St. Andrew’s head.”

St. John Paul II sophomore athlete Benjamin Laurore, who has been an impact player in his own right this season, provided an analysis on how well Leggett performed last week against Jupiter Christian.

“Jaylen came in mentally prepared,” Laurore said. “Against Cardinal Newman, he didn’t start. But the week right after, he had great practices that whole week. This was exactly why he had two touchdowns last game against Jupiter Christian. He’s a heck of a player.”

NOTE: It was truly a battle of the Eagles, as both St. John Paul II and Jupiter Christian are represented by the school mascot moniker.
