BOCA RATON – When Peyton Giersbrook got his opportunity to make a meaningful contribution for Boca Raton this past weekend, he did so in spectacular fashion.
With Boca Raton taking on Palm Beach Gardens in the 8A Silver title game on Dec. 19, the junior kicker used his leg to power his team to an early 3-0 lead. It was a 37-yarder that he nailed to perfection.
“It was the first drive of the game,” Giersbrook said. “The offense was focused and ready from the first play. They drove down the field, highlighted by a 30+ yard pass play with an exceptional throw from Jacob Cashion (No. 14) and an outstanding catch from Jason Bradley (No. 4). The offense put me in position for the field goal attempt.”
Giersbrook had more to say about his field goal.
“Our special teams did a excellent job,” Giersbrook said. “The snap and hold were there. The offensive line did a great job blocking. I was then able to do my part and make the field goal.”
Giersbrook went on to score six points for Boca Raton in the 8A Silver title game, which included three extra points in a 24-17 win over Palm Beach Gardens.
“It was a great win for our team and great win for our program,” Giersbrook said. “It was a championship that our team worked hard for. Our coaches did a great job of leading us to the championship. Gardens was a very good team, and this was a nail-biter the whole way…I am just so happy for my team and especially our seniors this year. I know this is something our team will never forget.”
Boca Raton finished its season with a 6-1 record, with the only blemish coming in Week 3, a 47-12 blowout loss to Atlantic (Delray Beach).
Giersbrook played a key role in the Bobcats overall success, as he ended his junior campaign with the following statistics:
•4-for-5 in field goal attempts
•18-for-20 in extra point attempts
•1 solo touchback
•Teamed up with senior kicker Thomas Lofiego on pooch kicks and touchbacks
•Worked with Lofiego, junior holder Kierce Nguyen and senior long snapper Drew Ihnat to create a strong special teams collective the season
“We could not have developed as a special teams unit without our coaching staff giving us motivation and guidance throughout the season,” Giersbrook said. “I want to build off this season to continue pursuing excellence with my teammates in Bobcat Football.”
Giersbrook was grateful about his Breakthrough of Week 7 honor.
“It is an honor and a privilege for New Era Prep to consider me for this prestigious award,” Giersbrook said. “I want to thank everybody who voted for me and supported Boca High Football throughout the season. I consider this a team award, and I could not have achieved my success without my long snapper, my holder, and offensive line.”
