WEST PALM BEACH – Delroy Lewis is happy for both the individual successes of his brothers on the field and for his entire team at Palm Beach Lakes.
After a patient waiting period for his time to shine, the timing couldn’t be much better for Lewis’s moment to in the spotlight.
It’s well-deserved in more ways than one.
In last week’s 31-14 road win over
Palm Beach Central, Lewis had seven tackles, two pass breakups, and an interception. But it was one play in particular that catapulted him to our Breakthrough Player of Week 7 honor.
With 6:45 left in the fourth quarter, Palm Beach Central senior quarterback Anarjahe Douriet attempted a touchdown pass to one of his receivers, who was at the end zone. But a timely pass breakup by Lewis effectively sealed the 17-point win for Palm Beach Lakes and ended any suspense that brewed prior to the clutch play.
“Gotta love the best part of the game,” Lewis said. “I just had to make a play.”
Lewis on his Breakthrough Player of Week 7 honor:
“It’s an amazing feeling,” Lewis said. “I feel very grateful for it.”
Lewis and Palm Beach Lakes (5-0; No. 1 team ranking) will play their Week 8 game tomorrow at Seminole Ridge (4-1; No. 10 team ranking). The kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
