DELRAY BEACH – Steady progress is everything when it comes to a football player’s development.
American Heritage (Delray Beach) senior defensive back Bobby Salla fits this application well in more ways than one. This was evident in last week’s regular season finale at Cardinal Newman, which turned out to be an impressive 19-0 win.
Salla finished the game with seven tackles, two pass breakups, and one interception.
“With my pick, I just saw it,” Salla said. “See it, play it, run the ball. I saw the read and saw the quarterback. That’s all I can say about it.”
For his stellar performance, Salla was recognized as our Breakthrough Player of Week 8.
“It feels great,” the 6-foot, 198-pound safety said. “I’ve been grinding all year to get noticed and now I have accomplished it.”
Salla spoke on his team’s defensive effort to product the 19-point shutout win over Cardinal Newman.
“That’s a product of Heritage football,” Salla said. “Our defensive coordinator, Coach [Gerard] Fulton, our DB coach, Coach [Henry] Colombi, our D-Line coach, Coach [Mike] Hall, and our LB coach, Coach Mike Hall Jr., none of this happens without them. We players, we listen to them. We take their coaching with a grain of salt everyday, and we just fight. That’s a product of it.”
