The No. 24 University of South Florida Bulls continue its dominance in conference play, overcoming three turnovers in the first quarter. After coming out of halftime tied at 21, the Bulls ran up 21 unanswered points in the first four minutes of the third quarter. USF hands the University of North Texas its first loss of the season, winning 63-36, advancing to 5-1 on the season.

USF’s defense showed its dominance once again as it forced three interceptions and a forced fumble. Graduate linebacker Jhalyn Shuler lit up the box score with a scoop-and-score forced by junior cornerback Jarvis Lee and an interception.

Sophomore safety Fred Gaskins turned up USF’s momentum in the second half, picking off redshirt freshman Drew Mestemaker.

“Coach Tio has been reaping on us every week. We have a three-turnover mark. Every game we go into the game looking for turnovers, flying around making plays, hitting people, making a play,” Gaskins said.

Redshirt senior Byrum Brown threw for 245 yards, completing 22 of his 28 attempts and three passing touchdowns. Brown didn’t stop there, as he ran for 82 yards along with two rushing touchdowns.

Head coach Alex Golesh went into his bag of tricks again, having freshman wide receiver Christian Neptune throw a 29-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Keshaun Singleton.

“We do double throw guys tryouts in fall camp. That’s my favorite post-practice line activity. There’s a couple more in the back pocket, I think he (Neptune) finished second in that competition,” Golesh said.

With one win away from becoming bowl eligible. USF hosts Florida Atlantic University on Oct. 18 at Raymond James Stadium.
