The University of South Florida defeats Rice University 52-3 in the final game of the season at Raymond James Stadium to go undefeated at home for the first time since 2002. USF advances to 9-3 (6-2) on the season, awaiting its bowl game to be announced for a third consecutive year.
Redshirt senior quarterback Byrum Brown became the 12th player in FBS history to eclipse 3,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards in a season. Brown had another explosive night leading the Bulls with 275 passing yards on 16/24 attempts, four passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown.
“Every time he has the ball in his hands, something special happens,” head coach Alex Golesh said.
Junior wide receiver Keshaun Singleton recorded his second 100-yard receiving game this season. Singleton, who overcame an injury during his freshman year has flourished since then, almost doubling his stats from his sophomore year.
“Coach means the world to me, cause my freshman year I fractured my ankle and I had a lot of offers, but Golesh took a chance on me, and he actually cherishes me. He’s like a father,” Singleton said.
The Bulls’ defense was all over the field, led by graduate linebackers Jhalyn Shuler and Mac Harris with seven and five tackles, respectively. Harris posted his first 100-tackle season.
“Mac is a great example of how you flip a program,” Golesh said.
With a 6-2 conference record, the Bulls fall short of an appearance in the American Conference Championship, which will be between North Texas and Tulane.
