LOXAHATCHEE – It all took place throughout the fourth quarter of Atlantic’s 43-13 road win over Seminole Ridge this past Friday (Oct. 13).
Even though the game was already out of reach – Atlantic was up 30-7 in the final frame at that point – junior running back Jamie Simmons (‘25) was not trying to gain just a few yards on the field.
The 5-foot-9, 170-pound breakout star was voted as our Breakout Player of Week 8 by virtue of several big runs. You can see them right below for yourself.
Simmons finished the game with nine carries for 109 yards and two touchdowns.
“In the moment I was just ready to go in and get the job done,” Simmons said. “There wasn’t too much on my mind but doing what I had to do, and that was to play ball.”
Simmons touched on how he scored his two rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
“After my 20 yard-run and I got pushed out of bounds at the 1-yard line, only thing on my mind on the next down was I had to finish the job and get in the end zone,” Simmons said. “I’m grateful my coaches trusted me to get it done. On the second touchdown, my linemen had a great block and I was able split two defenders and get in the box.”
Atlantic head coach Jamelle Murray spoke on the breakout performance by Simmons and much more.

Simmons spoke on his Breakout Player of Week 8 honor to wrap it all up.
“It feels great to have been nominated and win breakout Player of the Week,” Simmons said. “I appreciate everyone who voted for me.”
