CORAL GABLES, FLA – The Miami Hurricanes have officially started their 2026 season, and it started with a bang. The Canes debuted the season with a 13-2 win over the Lehigh Mountain Hawks with offensive firepower from a new starting lineup.
Pre-game festivities included star Miami wide receiver Malachi Toney throwing out the first pitch of the season.

DH Max Galvin had 2 hits, including a double, and 3 RBIs. NC State catching transfer Alex Sosa got off to a hot start as a hurricane, slugging 2 hits and 4 RBIs with the Hurricanes’ lone home run. Star second baseman Jake Ogden contributed with a triple and an RBI as well. Right fielder Derek Williams provided some pop with 3 hits, 2 doubles, and an RBI. First baseman and Miami Dade College transfer Cian Copeland knocked a 2 RBI double in his lone at-bat.
Sophomore AJ Ciscar threw for 5 IP, 2 ER, and 7K. Coach JD Arteaga then decided to use a committee to relieve, with Brixton Lofgren, Jake Dorn, Ryan Bilka, and Lyndon Glidwell all getting innings in relief.
The Canes provided serious firepower, scoring all of their runs in 2 innings, with 6 runs in the 3rd and another 7 in the 8th.
Miami hosts Lehigh again tomorrow at 6:00 PM for Valentine’s Day, looking for the series win.
