Louisville, KY.- It’s great to be a Miami Hurricane!
This afternoon (October 19), the University of Miami traveled to Kentucky to face off against the Louisville Cardinals in an ACC thriller. Today’s game featured highlights galore, so let’s talk about it.
Miami dominated on all aspects of the game, controlling in both the run and pass games. The Hurricanes’ recorded over 200 yards on the ground, and over 300 in the air. Per usual, Cam Ward was on fire tonight, tossing 4 touchdowns to his elite receiver corps.
The aforementioned Hurricanes’ receiver corps exploded onto the scene today, as Samuel Brown III hauled in 3 catches for 125 yards and a score, Xavier Restrepo caught 7 balls for 101 yards and a touchdown, and Jacoby George and Isaiah Horton also tallied in scores.
Miami’s rushing attack was lethal, as the ‘Canes talented backfield of Damien Martinez and Mark Fletcher both pounded over 70 yards on the ground. Martinez highlighted the second half with the game securing 30 yard rush, where Damien broke through numerous tacklers en route to the end zone.
Defensively, Miami’s tackling issues were still apparent, but not entirely costly. I was personally very impressed with the suffocating performance of Miami’s front 7, as Kiko Mauigoa provided 4 TOT, 4 QB Hurries, 2 QB Hits and 2 Pass Breakups, alongside a 6 TOT and 1 Forced Fumble from Simeon Barrow.
As dominant as the front seven was, the secondary did provide serious issues. Constant misscues, multiple blown coverages and way too many points allowed than what realistically should’ve been. With that being said, The Hurricanes still came out on top, defeating Louisville 52-45 in an absolute thriller.
Miami advances to 7-0 on the year, and will host Florida State on Saturday, October 26. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 PM EST
