DELRAY BEACH – Tyler Gaskin is Palm Beach County’s only player in his class with a four-star rating by Rivals.com.
The area’s No. 1-ranked cornerback and new No. 1 overall player also has the most offers in his class with nine total. They come from the likes of Indiana, Harvard, Yale, Cornell, Columbia, Brown, Dartmouth, Coastal Carolina, and Georgetown.
And by the time we reach the spring football circuit and summer months, we can expect Gaskin’s recruiting process to get exponentially better.
“I’ve been grateful for those prestigious colleges because I know if I go there, I’m set for life,” Gaskin told Ryan DiPentima of the Palm Beach Post. “I know that a bunch Power Five schools are supposed to come down and see me in the spring.”
For right now, the 5-foot-9, 170-pound cornerback is excited to be crowned the king of all Palm Beach County players in his class.
“Being ranked number one in Palm Beach is a huge honor,” said Gaskin, who replaces former No. 1 overall player and Palm Beach Lakes running Antonio Outler at the top on Monday, March 2. “It only motivates me to work harder and keep grinding. Next up is number one in Florida, then number one in the nation.”
Gaskin also reflected on his four-star honor.
“I’m grateful to be rated a four-star by Rivals,” Gaskin said. “But at the same time, it doesn’t mean anything because I have to go out and perform every time.”
Over the past two seasons, Gaskin has proven to be a model of consistency on the field. In those two years, there have been 54 pass targets in his direction, but only five catches have been allowed for a combined 63 yards.
Gaskin has allowed no touchdowns in both his sophomore and junior seasons at American Heritage. He recorded 20 tackles, nine pass breakups, and three interceptions this past season.
Here’s some more: In two years, Gaskin had four kick returns for scores, blocked three field goals on special teams, and forced two fumbles. He amassed 38 tackles with 17 pass breakups and three interceptions.
NOTE: We’re going to go deeper into Gaskin’s overall success on the field and in the classroom at a later date. By then, we’ll have more than enough film study done on Gaskin’s camp and 7-on-7 performances, which could go a long way in keeping him at No. 1.
