DELRAY BEACH – In what has been an endless amount of surprises this year, we got another one this morning (June 23) that is significant to our area.
Senior-to-be cornerback Tyler Gaskin announced on his Twitter account that he will transfer from American Heritage (Delray Beach) to Deerfield Beach. He has been our No. 1 overall player in Palm Beach County for the past three months.
It is clear that Gaskin wants to graduate from high school in December. This is a key reason why the Rivals four-star cornerback wanted to make this move.
Also, Gaskin will have a chance to play on the big stage, as Deerfield Beach will play against state powerhouse Tallahassee (Lincoln) on Aug. 28 at Gene Cox Stadium in Tallahassee. The neutral site game is in Week 2 of the regular season.
Gaskin currently has 23 offers, including the likes of Indiana, Air Force, Coastal Carolina, Utah State, and Holy Cross. Expect him to make a final college decision within the next six months.
Over the past two seasons at American Heritage (Delray Beach), Gaskin has proven to be a model of consistency on the field. In those two years, there have been 54 pass targets in his direction, but only five catches have been allowed for a combined 63 yards.
Gaskin has allowed no touchdowns in both his sophomore and junior seasons at American Heritage. He recorded 20 tackles, nine pass breakups, and three interceptions this past season.
In two years, Gaskin had four kick returns for scores, blocked three field goals on special teams, and forced two fumbles. He amassed 38 tackles with 17 pass breakups and three interceptions.
