Centennial hosts 3rd Annual Autism Acceptance Invitational

PORT ST. LUCIE- St. Lucie Centennial High School hosted its Third Annual Autism Acceptance Invitational tournament on Thursday (March 39) at South County Stadium.

Unlike the invitationals in the past, this year’s tournament had 4 games with 4 teams.

The four teams consisted of:

The returning champion of last year Lincoln Park Academy

Jensen Beach

Harmony

St. Lucie Centennial

Four games were played as the losing teams of the first 2 games were matched up in a Consolation Game and the winners would advance to the final Championship game.

The first game was a match between Jensen Beach and Centennial

Jensen Beach started the first half in the lead 12-0 against Centennial

Centennial then put themselves on the board in the third quarter when starter quarterback Miley McCarty made a deep throw in the endzone to Ja’Kenzie McBride, McCarty was able to seal the score with a successful extra point conversion in a rushing touchdown

Jensen Beach was able to make 2 touchdowns afterward in the fourth quarter with starter quarterback Paige Bressman to Lizzie Fitzwater and Jayla Brinkley

Jensen Beach won 25-7 and advanced to the championship game, as Centennial was heading to the consolation game.

The second game was a match-up between the returning champion Lincoln Park Academy and Harmony

Harmony set the tone in the first half with a leading score of 20-0

Lincoln Park Academy sparked in the third quarter when starter quarterback Leah Murphy threw a pass to Lahela Cornett in the endzone to put themselves on the board

Harmony in the final seconds of the game was able to score once more with a touchdown and ended the game.

Harmony won the second game 26-6 against Lincoln Park Academy and advanced to face off Jensen Beach in the championship game.

Lincoln Park Academy was set to face Centennial in the Consolation Game.

Lincoln Park took the lead in the game in the second quarter with 2 touchdowns when starter quarterback Leah Murphy threw a passing touchdown to Faith Hall and then a 50-yard pass to Lahela Cornett who then took it to the endzone for a touchdown.

Lincoln Park in the third quarter scored once more with a Philly special-like trick play with a lateral from Murphy to Reese Williams who found Cornett who was open in the endzone and made a passing touchdown. Murphy then successfully got the extra point conversion with a pass to Hall.

Centennial starter quarterback Miley McCarty with her team’s help put the team on the board with a rushing touchdown.

Leah Murphy was able to get one more score for the Greyhounds as she rushed in the endzone for a touchdown.

Lincoln Park Academy won the game 25-6

The Championship Game was set with Jensen Beach versus Harmony

Harmony took the lead of the game when they drew first blood with the first touchdown in the first quarter and another in the second quarter. Harmony had successful extra-point conversions in both touchdowns.

Jensen Beach got back on its feet when starter quarterback Paige Bressman made a passing touchdown to Jayla Brinkley in the endzone. Jensen Beach was unable to convert on the extra point.

Jensen Beach in the last minutes of the third quarter in a crucial moment brings Harmony on their last down. Harmony then went for it and managed to score to take a bigger lead. Harmony was unable to convert the extra point.

Harmony won the game 20-6 and was the winner of the 2024 Annual Autism Acceptance Invitational.
