LAKELAND – The King’s Academy Lady Lions traveled to Lakeland to face the Cardinal Mooney Lady Cougars in the FHSAA Class 3A state semifinals.
The Lady Cougars defeated the Lady Lions, 52-39.
Cardinal Mooney was led in scoring by Brianna Behn (’25) with 17 points.
The King’s Academy was led in scoring by Jordan Race (’23) with 9 points.
The first half was a back-and-forth shootout. At the end of the first quarter, Cardinal Mooney had a close lead over King’s, 16-11. However, the Lady Lions fought to stay with the Lady Cougars, narrowing the lead to 28-26 at halftime.
Entering the second half, the Lady Cougars turned the heat up. Cardinal Mooney scored 12 points in the third quarter, while holding King’s to two points.
During the forth quarter, the Lady Cougars expanded their lead, scoring another 12 points, and the Lady Lions scored 11.
The King’s Academy ends its amazing season with a 23-5 final record.
The Cardinal Mooney Lady Cougars (21-5) will face the Miami Country Day Lady Spartans (24-7) in the FHSAA Class 3A state championship. That game will be held Saturday, Feb. 25 at 10 a.m.
