Co-Underclassman of the Year – Private: RB Bill Young

NEP Team

BOCA RATON – This past season could not have gone much better for Bill Young.

The St. Andrew’s junior running back led his team to new heights, as he helped propel the Scots to a 6-5 final record, including a berth in the Class 3A playoffs in 2021.

So how did our Co-Underclassman of the Year for Private Schools get it done?

The 5-foot-10, 180-pound running back finished with 1,226 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns in 11 games. He had several games with at least three rushing scores, including three against Somerset Academy Canyons in Week 5, six against Spanish River in Week 6, and four against Inlet Grove in Week 8.

Young’s best game of the season was against Spanish River. He rushed for 250 yards and the astounding six scores to lead St. Andrew’s to an amazing 51-0 home win on Oct. 1, 2021.

For this tilt and all of the other ones, Young made sure to credit the offensive line for his overall success in the running game.

“I have a great bond with each of my offensive linemen,” Young said. “We all struggled early in the season, but took ownership and found a way. They are a great group of guys in the trenches.”

With the offensive line’s help, Young went on to break several team records. They include the following:

•Most single-game touchdowns (6)
•Most single-season touchdowns (18)
•Most points in a game (36)
•Most points in a season (112)
•Longest run (91 yards)

“He’s the best running back in the county,” St. Andrew’s head coach Jimmy Robertson said of Young. “He took the team on his shoulders and played each game with a purpose. He was determined to have a great season. His stats speak for itself, but what’s more important is his leadership skills on and off the field.”

PLEASE NOTE: Young will be sharing the Underclassman of the Year – Private honor with Cardinal Newman sophomore running back Tovani Mizell.

The other nominees are Benjamin sophomore running back Chauncey Bowens and King’s Academy junior quarterback Will Prichard.
