Coconut Creek Cougars Dominate the Deerfield Beach Bucks with a Strong Performance

Deerfield Beach, FL.- On Friday Night the Coconut Creek Cougars(1-3) faced off against the Deerfield Beach Bucks(1-3). Both teams looked eager to come away on top at the end of the matchup, as both teams struggled to find the win column this season.

Tonight, The King’s Academy Lions (4-0) faced off against the Inlet Grove Hurricanes (2-2)(1-0 District) for the Lions’ first game of District play.

The Coconut Creek Cougars kicked off their game with a bang, Junior rb/lb Jordan Thompson, delivered a big hit on the opening kickoff causing a fumble which gave the ball to the Cougars..

Starting from deep within the Deerfield Beach Bucks’ territory, the Cougars launched a promising drive. However, they were stalled on fourth down, handing the ball back to the Bucks. The Bucks quickly responded by punting.

On the next drive, the Cougars marched down the field and reached the red zone but again fell short on another fourth down attempt. Quickly after, Jordan Thompson from the Cougars forced another fumble. On the very next play he would carry it in for five-yard touchdown run. With just 21 seconds left in the first quarter, the score stood at 7-0 in favor of Coconut Creek.

In a surprising twist, the Cougars executed an onside kick, which was recovered by kicker. Coconut Creek once again marched down the field again, and ended the drive with a short passing touchdown. With less than 11 minutes left in the half, the Cougars extended their lead to 14-0.

The Cougars’ defense continued to shine, forcing the Bucks to punt again. On the punt a Cougars returner would drop the ball, but a penalty against the Bucks gave Creeks the ball back with excellent field position.

A good catch and run from a cougars wide receiver moved them down the field, and a 15-yard touchdown run by Senior quarterback Tj Wilcox pushed the lead to 21-0 with 7:01 left in the half.

The Bucks would have a promising drive but later turned the ball over on downs near the red zone, giving possession back to the Cougars. Unfortunately for Coconut Creek, their next drive ended in an interception.

The Bucks on their ensuing drive, converted a fourth down with a fake punt, but their drive also ended in an interception on the next play.

With less than two minutes left in the half, the Cougars attempted a two-minute drill but fell short. The Bucks took over after a failed fourth-down attempt.

The second half began with the Cougars marching down the field again, but they settled for a field goal, increasing their lead to 24-0.

The third quarter became a back-and-forth battle, with neither team able to score, keeping the score at 24-0.

Midway through the fourth quarter, the Cougars where able to score again with another touchdown, extending their lead to 31-0.

In the end, the Cougars defeated the Bucks with a final score of 38-8 and move to a record of 2-3 on the season and look to keep the momentum going as they head into the second half of the regular season.

Coconut Creek will travel up to Atlantic High School, on October 10th for another big match up. Kickoff is slated for 6:30 PM.
