STEVENS POINT, Wisc. – Jacob Acosta has a college football home.
It was not too long ago that his chances of playing on the next level would seem to be remote – at best.
But after overcoming an injury that kept him out for his senior season in 2021 at Royal Palm Beach, the 6-foot, 180-pound safety is ready to start anew at UW-Stevens – a Division III school based in Stevens Point, Wisc.
“When I tore my ACL early in the season, I had to be realistic that my options were going to be slim,” Acosta said. “I got in contact with them (UW-Stevens) towards the end of the season and heard about the program. I took a visit there and liked it a lot I felt at home right away.”
Acosta took his visit to UW-Stevens on March 13. He received an offer from the school on March 14, just one day after the visit began.
And on May 1, the Royal Palm Beach 2022 alum would commit and sign his letter of intent to UW-Stevens.
“What caught my attention is that we play in the best conference in the nation in our division,” Acosta said. “I always want to compete, so It was just the right place for me…I see myself making an impact right away as a true freshman.”
Acosta, who arrived at UW-Stevens this past Wednesday night (Aug. 10), reflected on his high school football experience at Royal Palm Beach.
“The start of it was very good,” Acosta said. “We had the best winning season in a while my sophomore year and I got thrown in the fire right away on varsity. My years after that were a rough road, to be honest, but it made me the player I am. I just got to put that in the past. Bigger things are coming.”
