Boulder, CO – An Instagram post earlier this morning by Colorado HC Deion Sanders revealed that Colorado running back Charlie Offerdahl has medically retired from football due to recent concussions.

In a heartfelt, emotional message to his teammates, Offerdahl thanked everyone on his staff and his relationship with God. Charlie will be attending dental school as he finishes up his CU education.

Coach Deion Sanders stepped in and confirmed Charlie’s football scholarship will be continued, and is looking to also take care of him in dental school. Prime showed his praise for Charlie, saying, “I wish to God that we just have 11 players with what (Offerdahl) has inside of him…Charlie never had a bad day.”

Offerdahl was one of the “Original Buffs” who were at Colorado before Coach Prime arrived and stuck with it and stayed at the program. In 2024, he was able to carve out reps throughout the season and even reach the end zone in a blowout win vs Utah. Charlie has shown persistence throughout his whole college career and will continue to do so.

This comes after an emotional day yesterday for Colorado and football fans around the country, as Deion Sanders revealed that he had beaten bladder cancer, in a preseason press conference with his doctors.
