Boulder, CO.- Last night (April 15), the Colorado Buffaloes announced that star QB Shedeur Sanders and WR/DB Travis Hunter’s jersey numbers would be retired, during the Buffs’ Black and Gold Day Showcase.

Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders left unfathomably large shoes to fill on the program. Both Hunter and Sanders are two of the top players at their respective positions to ever play college football, and will most certainly leave just as large of an impact on the game professionally. First off, Shedeur and Travis were the cornerstones of the rebirth of Colorado football, who went 1-11 just a year prior to their arrival.

While the duo unfortunately did not win a bowl game, conference title or make the College Football Playoff, there’s more than enough justification for the ceremony. For starters, Travis Hunter became both the second Buff and two way player to win the Heisman Trophy.

Travis Hunter’s full accolades list at Colorado consists of the following:

Heisman Trophy (2024)

Associated Press College Football Player of the Year (2024)

Walter Camp Player of the Year (2024)

Chuck Bednarik Award (2024)(Nation’s top Defensive Player)

Fred Biletnikoff Award (2024)(Nation’s top Wide Receiver)

Paul Hornung Award (2023, 2024)(Most Versatile Player in CFB)

Lott IMPACT Trophy (2024)

Academic All-American of the Year (2024)

Unanimous All-American (2024)

Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year (2024)

First-Team All-Big 12 (2024)

As for Shedeur Sanders, he proved himself as one of the nation’s most prolific passers. Sanders was one of the most efficient QB’s in college football over the past two seasons, boasting the following accolades and records:

Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award (2024)

Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year (2024)

First-Team All-Big 12 (2024)

100 School records

Regardless of what the talking heads on social media may say, it’s obvious that both Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter have earned the right to watch their jerseys get hung in the ring of honor. Congratulations to them both.
