Column talk: Early observations of Park Vista, Olympic Heights

LAKE WORTH – Here is my take from the Park Vista-Olympic Heights spring game that took place on Thursday, May 17:

OUTLOOK ON PARK VISTA

Park Vista appears to be ahead of schedule.

With head coach Brian Dodds at the helm, its defense will be anchored by rising seniors Dwayne Williams and Demarco Augustin and may be one of the best this upcoming season in Palm Beach County.

The Cobras run-heavy offense will also play a big roll this fall. While they won’t be projected to be a big-play team, they do have the talent to do so.

An offense that can get five yards here, 10 yards there over a course of a game can wear down opposing team defenses. It then opens up the game for a big play.

Park Vista will be losing longtime running backs coach Carlton Prescott. He will be leaving the program to finish up his service time in the United States Coast Guard.

We want to thank Prescott for his service.

OUTLOOK ON OLYMPIC HEIGHTS

Olympic Heights is a young team that lost a lot of its offense due to graduation. The Lions are only returning six starters on both sides of the ball from last year’s team.

The offense was never really able to get it going against Park Vista, but there were flashes here and there.

One thing that this team have is fight.

Here’s how: Park Vista was getting ready to take a 35-0 lead which would have started the running clock rule, but the Olympic Heights defense wasn’t going to let it happen. Nicolas Palmentari would pick up a fumble and take it 90 yards to the house, cutting Park Vista’s lead to 28-7 in the process.

All in all I wouldn’t feel bad for the Lions because with a head coach like Bazelais Alfred, they will be ready for this upcoming season.
