CAMBRIDGE, MA. – Premier Lacrosse League action continued this weekend from Harvard University as the Boston Cannons hosted their homecoming weekend, however, things didn’t go well for our hosts in their first game of the weekend.
The weekend kicked off with the California Redwoods taking on the Cannons, the Redwoods were seeking their first win of the young season after a 0-3 start.
Boston struck first as Marcus Holman found a very difficult shot angle and put the Cannons up on the board first. Their lead wouldn’t last long as California tied it up only a minute later thanks to Ryder Garnsey. The first half of this game was incredibly back and forth as both teams went 4-4 going into halftime.
Momentum shifted completely in the second half. California struck first giving them the lead, only for Boston to score three straight to head into the fourth quarter with a 7-5 lead. It looked as if California was going to drop to 0-4, until the Redwood offense fired up and put on a 4-0 rally in the final quarter with each goal coming from a different player.
The Woods would pick up their first win of the season. Boston would fall short in a disappointing homecoming debut, but look to rebound against the Philadelphia Waterdogs, Saturday at 7pm in the second game of their homecoming doubleheader.
The second game of Friday was surely the game to be at for the weekend as the Denver Outlaws took on the New York Atlas. The Atlas looked to continue their reign as the top team in the standings with a win, while the Outlaws looked to make a statement win led by Rookie of the Year candidate Brennan O’Neill.
This game was anything but close. Immediately out of the gate, New York would take a 5-1 lead in the first quarter. Jeff Teat continued his dominance as the leagues scoring leader as he scored one goal and dished out two goals and two assists.
A big storyline on the night was the debut of Goalie Liam Entenmenn, Entenmenn was a big part of Notre Dame’s repeat title wins and was considered to be the top goalie in the entire nation for the NCAA. With the Atlas making the decision to bench starting goalie Timothy Troutner earlier this week, many saw this as a nod for Entenmenn finally getting his shot, and he did not disappoint.
The Atlas offense kept rolling all game as they went on a 8-1 run through the second and third quarters of the game. Teat continued his roll by putting up three of the eight goals scored in this time frame.
O’Neill and the Outlaw offense were rendered helpless the entire game. Only putting up four goals the entire time in their 17-4 loss against the Atlas.
On the other side of the field, Teat officially tied the single season scoring record with 44 points, an unbelievable stat considering we just are a week away from the All-Star break.
Entenmenn would also put on a clinic in the goal in his debut with a 77.8% save percentage and 14 saves. Talk about a debut for one the best goalkeepers in NCAA history.
The Atlas move on to 5-1 with this massive win on the season. With the All-Star break coming up, the Atlas get a break and a chance to recover as they don’t play again as a team until July 20th against Boston.
For the rest of the weekend, the Utah Archers take on the Maryland Whipsnakes at 4:30PM on ESPN+ and the Boston Cannons play their second game of their homecoming weekend against the Philadelphia Waterdogs at 7PM on ESPN2 and ESPN+.
