WEST PALM BEACH – Ja’Kavian Williams wants to ensure he has the best senior year experience possible.

This is one reason why the athlete has made his choice to transfer from John I. Leonard to Cardinal Newman.

Williams delved further into his decision, which he officially announced on his Twitter account during the evening of June 1.

“After talking with my family, we came to an agreement that Cardinal Newman was a better environment for me to be in academic and athletic wise,” Williams said. “Although John I. wasn’t a bad academic school, I feel that Cardinal Newman has more to offer in that department. Also athletic wise, I’ve played with majority of the Cardinal Newman football team in little league and we always talked about playing together on the high school level. Then when Coach [Jack] Daniels arrived, it just made my decision a whole lot easier because my uncle played for Coach Daniels back in his Dwyer days and always talks about how good they were. So I want to help Coach Daniels and the Crusaders get a shot to make a run at a state championship for my senior year.”

With that said, a couple of teammates from Cardinal Newman have been happy with the addition of Williams.

“Ja’kavian is my friend and we played at Lake Lytal together,” Cardinal Newman junior-to-be athlete Vinkevus Pierre said. “I know he was coming but I had to let him break the news. I will have more old teammates joining soon in the summer.”

Here is another one on behalf of Williams.

“It’s a big pickup for us,” Cardinal Newman junior-to-be quarterback Joe Thomas said. “He’s a kid that can help us out at serval positions and is a good kid to have as a leader.”

In five games last year, Williams recorded 520 passing yards, 130 rushing yards, 120 receiving yards, and six total touchdowns. He also registered two interceptions on defense.
