Decision time: OL Chase Malamala weighs in on recruiting process

PALM BEACH GARDENS – A 6-foot-7, 310-pound offensive lineman is about to make a life-changing decision later this week.

Benjamin standout Chase Malamala (No. 1-ranked offensive lineman; No. 10-ranked overall player in the Class of 2024) has a total of 10 colleges to choose from. He revealed the date of when his final decision will be made.

Here is the full list of Malamala’s 10 college scholarship offers to date:

•UCF

•Auburn 

•Florida State

•Arkansas State

•Charlotte

•FAU

•Temple

•Toledo

•UMass

•Western Michigan

Before we go deeper into these aforementioned colleges, let us take a look at Malamala’s game film from his junior season at Benjamin.

Now that we showed everyone solid proof that Malamala deserves to be a top offensive line prospect, we can go back to the college search.

Malamala spoke on what he is ultimately looking for in his next school of choice.

“I’m looking for the best fit for me as a player on and off the field,” said Malamala, who currently has a 3.70 grade point average. “A program with coaches committed to developing their players is important to me. Also a program that has players that are close and like a family.”

Malamala on UCF:

“It’s a great school with great people,” he said. “They have treated me like family on my visits and have been very hospitable.”

Malamala on Auburn:

“Auburn is a school with great coaches and deep tradition,” he said. “They have treated me the same way, and I’ve enjoyed building my relationship with them.”

Malamala on Florida State:

“The staff at FSU is great and they are a tight knit group who care about each other,” he said. “They have been great and like to talk football with me while I’m there.”

After Malamala announces where his next destination will likely be at for the next several years ahead, his focus will solely be on the gridiron at Benjamin.

This past season, Benjamin started off slow at 0-3 but bounced back to a 5-5 regular season record and an appearance in the Class 1M playoffs. 

Malamala spoke a bit about last season, even though it was about his individual game more so than anything else.

“I think my junior season was my best yet,” he said. “I developed a lot since my sophomore year and improved my game in many ways. I think my senior season will be even better.”

Malamala also spoke on how Buccaneers head coach Eric Kresser and his coaching staff have helped him develop and grow at his position.

“Coach Kresser is a great coach who is dedicated to his players and wants them to succeed to the next level,” he said. “The rest of the coaching staff is all very experienced and knowledgeable about the game. Our O-line coach Trent Saunders has been an awesome addition to our team this year and has helped us improve even more.”

Finally, Malamala shared his aspirations for this upcoming fall season, which will begin next month and end either in November or December.

“My individual goals are to help the team to my full potential and of course play Power 5 football,” he said. “Our team goal, of course, is to win every game and dominate our way to a state championship.”
